What's your guys thoughts on Twilight? I know some of my friends parents won't let them watch it, but I've seen it and really don't think it's too bad. it was one of the cleanest movies i've seen in a long time.

I liked it, but it was totally fake, as most movies are. I haven't read the books, but the movie was ok. I'm so glad that I'm not a vampire! God made us perfect as humans.

What do you mean by "clean"?

clean as in, no inapropriate things, and no profanity. thats what she means.

I mean clean in the sense no one is shown having sex they don't use bad language and don't talk like total perverts

hmm... i havent read it or seen it... my mom discourages me from it. I could if i wanted to and ive been trying to decide whether i want to or not. ive heard so much about twilight that i basically know the plot and it sounds sorta interesting, and i do enjoy romantic stories, but does it really seem like a Godly movie? would Jesus want to watch it with you? does it help you become a better christian and focus more on God? Thats wat i try to think about when im trying to decide what things to read or watch... now of course, I'm not perfect. ive read books and seen movies i know that Jesus would rather be somewhere else during and they might have been entertaining but it didnt make me feel closer to God afterward. its one of those things where you decide where you you stand. i hope that helps! :D

Well Court, when you think about it, no movie on this earth is going to bring you closer to God unless it's like Narnia or the Passion. That's just the truth, even the super cute ones like Finding Nemo.

I have always wondered why the Chronicles of Narnia seems to be praised in Christian circles. It involves a giant lion, witches and fantasy worlds, and has a story of good versus evil that most movies have. I wonder why it is considered any more "Godly" than similar movies like the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter?

The "giant lion" (Aslan) is suppossed to be God. The witch is Satan and the only fantasy world they end up in is where the creating of our earth took place. Aslan died like Jesus. All of the books put together tell Jesus' story.

I can see that, but if that is the case then surely the Lord of the Rings is the same? If you read the Silmarillion, which is the precursor to the Lord of the Rings, it is exactly the same-there is a supreme being called Eru, or the 'One," his most powerful servant called Melkor who turns to evil, and then his angels, called the Valar. The same applies to Harry Potter. I am just saying that the story of good vs evil in Narnia is exactly the same as many other movies, fantasy or other, so why is Narnia given special attention?

because C.S. Lewis wrote it to be a metaphor and it is a lot closer than Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings. Anyway, I don't want to fight. We're both entitled to our own views. And do you have a problem with fantasy?

I wasn't trying to fight, and yes, we are both entitled to our views :) I love fantasy, that is why my viewpoint is the way it is. I don't like it when some SDA I know argue that Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings are evil, while the Chronicle of Narnia is not, even though all of them are fantasy and all have the same basic themes

I believe that the Lord of the Rings is a Christian fantasy, even though it's less obviously so than the Chronicles of Narnia. I like the Chronicles of Narnia more because they are easier to understand and keep up with. Harry Potter, beyond the "good versus evil" theme, is more occult than Christian. In CoN it's clear that magic (God's power) is not for humans, but HP just makes people want power.
